GERO KÖRNER feels at home on all
keyboard instruments. Apart from his
love for the piano, he can be heard
and seen on records and stages with
a vast array of new and old keyboards
and synthesizers. He is influenced by
great jazz pianists like Bill Evans,
Oscar Peterson, and also affected by
the popular styles of Stevie Wonder
and Herbie Hancock. His playing is
also inspired by classical music.
Gero's improvisations blend blues-
fuelled elements with lyrical sounds.
As a border-crosser between jazz,
rock, electronica and classical
music, he can not be labelled a jazz
purist. His musical language takes
various influences and combines them
in a new context. Gero studied jazz
piano at the Musikhochschule Köln,
and received classical piano training
at the same time. He has toured and
recorded with Wonderwall, Heribert
Leuchter, Gunter Hampel, Christoph
Titz and Ina Deter. He is a member of
the rock band RUFUS ZUPHALL and has
played in various theatre and musical
productions, such as "Saturday Night
Fever". His own project, the
GERO KÖRNER TRIO delights with
mellifluous swing-jazz. Gero's funky
dance band, MR GEE AND THE EXPRESS
celebrates danceable Hammond-Soul
at its best.
